The Plateau State Association USA (PSA-USA) has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba and surrounding communities in Jos, Plateau State, urging authorities to take immediate and decisive action to end the recurring violence.

In a press release issued on April 2, 2026, and signed by its President, Dr. Barth Shepkong, the association described the attacks as senseless and devastating, noting that they have left families shattered, communities traumatized, and the state in mourning.

The group lamented that Plateau State, often referred to as the “Home of Peace and Tourism,” continues to experience cycles of bloodshed, stressing that urgent measures are needed to reverse the trend.

PSA-USA acknowledged the recent visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Plateau State, describing it as a reflection of the national significance of the crisis. However, the association emphasized that beyond symbolic gestures, citizens require concrete protection, accountability, and sustained commitment to ending the violence.

The diaspora body extended condolences to the families of victims and expressed solidarity with affected communities, noting that the pain is shared by Plateau indigenes around the world.

To address the situation, PSA-USA called for immediate security reinforcement in vulnerable areas, including the deployment of adequately equipped personnel with a focus on protecting civilians.

It also demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the Angwan Rukuba killings, with a clear timeline and public disclosure of findings, alongside the prosecution of perpetrators regardless of their status.

The association further urged authorities to ensure accountability at all levels, including sanctioning any lapses by security agencies or local authorities that may have contributed to the attacks.

Among other recommendations, PSA-USA advocated for the establishment of effective early warning and rapid response systems, provision of humanitarian assistance and compensation to victims, and the implementation of long-term conflict resolution strategies addressing underlying issues such as land disputes, ethnic tensions, and governance gaps.

The group also reiterated its call for comprehensive security reforms, including the creation of state police, arguing that Nigeria’s current centralized security structure has proven inadequate in addressing localized threats.

PSA-USA appealed to Plateau residents to remain calm, avoid actions that could escalate tensions, and embrace unity during the difficult period.

The association stressed that the protection of lives remains the fundamental responsibility of government, warning that continued inaction could further erode public confidence.

It concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace, ensuring justice, and rebuilding trust in Plateau State.
