The Chairman of Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Uno Etim, has approved a monthly stipend of N20,000 for each National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the council area.
Etim announced the initiative on Tuesday when he received a delegation of serving corps members who visited him.
The chairman urged the corps members to regard the local government as their home throughout their service year, assuring them of his administration’s support to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
He also directed the Works Department to inspect the accommodation provided for the corps members and assess areas requiring repairs or improvement.
Etim said the monthly stipend was part of his administration’s commitment to supporting young Nigerians deployed to the area to contribute their skills and energy to the development of the community.
He further assured the corps members that their security and welfare would remain a priority throughout their stay in the local government.
Speaking on behalf of the corps members, their liaison officer, Ukachukwu Ifeanyi, expressed appreciation to the chairman for his support and commended the administration for the development projects it has undertaken across the local government area.
