Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed the allegations of murder and betrayal made against him by his sister-in-law, Pastor Pat Akpabio, describing them as baseless and attention-seeking.
Reacting through his spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio urged Pat to take her claims to law enforcement agencies rather than publicizing them on social media.
“Killing is at the heart of our criminal justice administration. Any citizen who is aware of such a crime should report it to the appropriate authorities,” Eyiboh said, as quoted by Premium Times.
He added that the issue of murder should not be used for political vendetta, noting that “whoever asserts must prove.”
Eyiboh further defended the Senate President’s integrity, describing him as “a humble and strong family man,” and suggesting that Pat’s allegations were motivated by a quest for attention.
“She is just doing it for attention. The Senate President is very busy,” he stated.
Pastor Pat Akpabio, who is married to Akpabio’s brother, Ibanga, had in a Facebook video posted on October 11 accused the Senate President of being behind several killings in Akwa Ibom State during his tenure as governor. She also criticized him for neglecting his hometown, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, which she claimed has been without electricity for weeks.
She further alleged that Akpabio betrayed several political associates — including Umana Okon Umana, Nsima Ekere, Akan Udofia, and Bassey Albert — and vowed to challenge him in the 2027 senatorial election, issuing what she described as a “quit notice.”
“When you finish, go home. Take care of yourself,” she said in the video, while also warning President Bola Tinubu to be cautious in his dealings with Akpabio.
Before venturing into politics, Godswill Akpabio worked as a teacher, lawyer, and later as Managing Director/CEO of EMIS Telecoms Limited before becoming governor of Akwa Ibom State.
