Renowned Nigerian musician and live band leader, Akinloye Tofowomo, popularly known as Akiin Shuga, has passed away at the age of 50.
The founder of the celebrated Shuga Band reportedly died on October 30, 2025, in New Brunswick, Canada.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by his family on Monday, describing him as “a revered music icon and custodian of rhythm, culture, and the spirit of performance.”
The family added that details of the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course but requested privacy during this period of mourning.
“In the meantime, we ask for privacy and quiet reflection at this deeply difficult time,” the statement read.
Akiin Shuga is survived by his wife, children, siblings, and mother.
