The Nigerian was given the award following the fantastic performance of his team during the group stage. The Super Eagles won all their group games against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau, scoring six (6) goals and conceding just one (1).
The Super Eagles play Tunisia in the next round of the competition on Sunday, January 23rd, 2022 at 8 p.m.( GMT). Coach Eguavoen will hope he can lead his team to the quarter-finals with a win over the Tunisians.
The last time Nigeria played Tunisia at AFCON with Eguavoen on the bench, he was assistant to Christian Chukwu. The Super Eagles won the game 6-5 on penalties after playing 1-1 in 120 minutes of football.
Eguavoen and Nigerians will hope for a repeat of the 2004 triumph over the North Africans.
