The Super Eagles of Nigeria have reportedly declined to travel to Marrakech for their quarter-final encounter against Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to unpaid match bonuses.

The development was disclosed by BBC Africa journalist, Oluwashina Okeleji, who is currently in Morocco.

Nigeria are scheduled to face Algeria on Saturday evening, but it is understood that the players and coaching crew have not received bonuses for the four matches played so far in the tournament.

Eric Chelle’s side recorded victories against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda in the group stage before delivering a dominant 4–0 win over Mozambique in the Round of 16.

Sources said the players and technical crew have resolved not to travel or participate in training sessions until the outstanding bonuses are fully settled.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) nor tournament organizers have issued an official statement on the matter.
