Activist Detoun Adejobi has responded strongly to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, days after the state police filed six charges against her at the Abeokuta High Court over alleged cyberbullying.
Recall that in December 2025, Adejobi publicly criticised the Ogun State Government following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two friends of boxer Anthony Joshua. She accused the state government of failing to provide ambulances and basic emergency response services.
In a viral video at the time, Adejobi also made scathing remarks about Governor Abiodun, accusing him of poor governance and neglect of public welfare in favour of personal interests.
On January 19, the Ogun State Police Command announced that it had filed charges against the activist, accusing her of cyberbullying and making false allegations against the governor. The police further claimed that Adejobi failed to honour an invitation, allegedly citing illness and presenting a medical report which they later described as fake. The command added that the doctor who issued the report had been arrested.
Reacting on her Instagram page, Adejobi denied evading the police, stating that she acknowledged the invitation and informed them she would be available on January 27. She expressed surprise that the police issued a statement on January 19 alleging she was avoiding them.
Adejobi also rejected claims that she cyberbullied the governor, insisting she was speaking on behalf of the people of Ogun State. She accused Governor Abiodun of prioritising social engagements over governance and alleged that complaints by residents are often ignored by the governor and his aides.
She further argued that public office holders now rely on the Cybercrime Act to suppress dissent, adding that citizens have the right to demand accountability from elected leaders wherever they appear.
“This is my home state, and I am speaking for my people,” she said. “You cannot ignore people for years and expect silence. When we speak, you must listen.”
Adejobi maintained that she is not intimidated by the charges and challenged the governor to disprove the allegations she made, insisting she is ready to defend her claims.
The police case is expected to continue at the Abeokuta High Court, while the controversy continues to generate reactions on social media.
