The phone numbers of all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in Adamawa state have been made public to provide citizens with a direct line of communication during security emergencies.
This comes in response to rising criminal activities around the state, as only on Friday, a man lost his life in the state capital to a youth gang who went for his handsets.
A statement obtained by DAILY POST from the command headquarters in Yola on Monday morning showed numbers of 51 DPOs across the 21 local government areas of the state who could be contacted at any hour of the day and night over security breach.
Described as “DPOs’ emergency hotlines for standard operational procedures for seamless responses to distress calls”, the numbers are a fallback for all residents in the police command’s “effort to effectively respond to distress calls and to ensure the protection of lives and property,” according to the statement.
Signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, the statement added that the DPOs’ hotlines will ensure monitoring and reporting of any suspicious act or acts of violence by unscrupulous persons capable of disrupting the peace of the Public.
“This is part of the Command’s effort to achieving the strategy of responding to distress calls and dealing with miscreants or groups of miscreants in any part of the state,” the statement stressed.
It advised members of the public to call the phone number of the DPO covering their location to report any security breach around their neighbourhood.
