Plateau state governor Simon Lalong on Saturday bagged a Doctorate degree in law .
Speaking at the occasion Lalong said. “I am sincerely honoured, with the privilege of addressing this
Convocation and particularly to give an Acceptance Speech, on behalf of
all of us who have been conferred and awarded various degrees as
evidence of earned Achievements in the various field of our endeavours.’
Today’s 7th Convocation and Award of Honorary Degrees is just but one
part of the celebration, the second and equally important, is the open
acknowledgment of Hon. (Dr.) Bode Ayorinde (MHR); a man whose vision of
having the best University and indeed one that would produce the Total
Person, morally sound, properly educated and entrepreneurially oriented,
to be useful to himself and society, is bearing fruit with every
passing day. This vision of the Achiever’s University is holistic and
would sincerely produce the Total Person.”
“When Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde (MHR), started the Achievers Continuous
Education Centre in 1994, he had planted a seed which today has been
nurtured through the shared burden of sacrifice of the share holders, to
be an Educational shelter for the several students, who today and in
the future will be getting trained in the Achievers University. It is
therefore the Founders that we are celebrating today, much more than
those of us whom you have honoured. We thank you for giving your dream
of a foremost University Wings, and for allowing the graduands to fly on
those wings into the bright future that awaits them. Having been
thoroughly trained and found worthy in character and learning, only time
stands in the way of the Graduands of this University as the begin
their journey towards the realisation of their full potentials in life.”
“In humility, I stand today on behalf all the Distinguished Honourees
whom you have found worthy of the Honorary Degrees, to say we are now
brands and Ambassadors of the Achievers University. The credentials of
Emeritus Professor David Ijalaye, Nigeria’s first Distinguished
Professor of Law, Hon Aishatu Jibril Dukku, Former Minister of State for
Education and Member House of Representatives; Dr. William Babatunde
Fowler, Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service justify the
Award given and it further proves the commitment to Excellency of this
citadel of learning. I am honoured to share in your recognition of my
modest contribution to Democratic Governance, respect for the rule of
law and commitment to peace building.”
“On behalf of all Honourees and Recipients of Awards, I am convinced
beyond doubt to say that the achievements we have seen in the Achievers
University, which came into existence only a decade ago, lends credence
to the thorough breed of excellent professionals who make the Governing
Council, Management, Faculties and Non-Teaching Staff of the University.
To you all, I wish to say without mincing words, that you have engraved
and imprinted yourselves in the roll-call of honour and will live to be
celebrated by our Nation for every Achiever that you graduate from this
University.”
“As we all share in the dreams and aspirations of the Vision Bearers
of this University, ably led by Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde (MHR), we shall
continue to support the Achievers University to realise its vision. We
are now Honourary Alumni of the Achievers University and should not be
left out in all endeavours of this Institution, to provide qualitative
Education for the Students who pass through it.”
”
I will not end this Acceptance Speech without thanking my brother
Governor and Colleague in the Legal Profession, His Excellency; ‘Akate’
Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (S.A.N.), whose Governorship ambition strengthened
the bond of relationship between Plateau and Ondo State. When our Party
the All Progressives Congress (APC) gave me the mandate of leading the
Campaign Council to deliver him, I accepted the Assignment with
enthusiasm because I knew that he will bring his wealth of experience to
bear, in delivering the dividends of democracy to the good people of
Ondo State.”
“I am happy that through this mandate, Ondo has now become a second
home for me and I look forward to all our citizens strengthening the
bonds we have created for the promotion of National Integration and
Cohesion.”
“Once more, I thank you for this honour and I assure you all that it
will spur all of us as recipients of honours to continue to apply
ourselves positively, for the good and nationalistic course of having a
better Country.”
