A 32-day-old baby who was abducted alongside the mother in Kaduna State has reportedly died while in captivity, amid ongoing ransom demands by the abductors.

The incident occurred in the Mother Cat community of Kachia Local Government Area, where armed bandits reportedly kidnapped the nursing mother and her infant over a week ago.

A community source, Ibrahim Sallau, who had earlier raised alarm over the abduction, confirmed the development in a message sent on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

According to Sallau, the kidnappers contacted the family to inform them of the baby’s death and demanded a ransom of ₦7 million for the release of the mother along with the child’s remains.

In his message, he stated that the abductors communicated via phone, insisting that the payment must be made before the mother can regain her freedom.

The tragic development has further heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, particularly in rural communities where cases of kidnapping for ransom have persisted.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
