About 500 teenagers reportedly stormed a shopping complex in Aurora, Colorado, United States, causing property damage, fights and significant disruption to businesses in the area.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Hoffman Heights Shopping Center, following an unpermitted gathering reportedly organised by a social media influencer.
According to reports, the crowd was largely made up of teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17. After gathering at an outdoor event, the teenagers moved toward nearby businesses, including a King Soopers supermarket and a Burger King restaurant.
More than 70 officers from the Aurora Police Department were deployed to disperse the crowd.
However, upon the arrival of police, groups of teenagers reportedly rushed into the surrounding businesses.
Videos shared on social media showed dozens of teenagers inside the Burger King restaurant, with some dancing on tables before furniture collapsed. Others were seen running through the aisles of the supermarket, with reports of merchandise being taken and property damaged.
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain condemned the incident, saying investigators were reviewing available video footage to identify those allegedly involved in theft, vandalism and other criminal activities.
“This crossed the line from a gathering of young people into a police matter because of the behavior and criminal conduct of some of those involved,” Chamberlain said.
“We will not tolerate groups taking over roadways, disrupting businesses, damaging property or stealing under the belief that being part of a large crowd provides anonymity.”
Police said no immediate arrests were made at the scene. Investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the damage and identify those responsible for the reported criminal acts.
Authorities are also expected to assess the total financial losses suffered by the affected businesses.
