2028 Olympic Qualifier: Super Falcons to Face Morocco in Third Round

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Morocco in the third round of the African qualifiers for the women’s football event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The fixture was confirmed after Nigeria secured a convincing 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros in the second round of the qualifying series. The Falcons defeated their opponents 5-0 in the second leg at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday, October 13, following a 2-0 win in the first leg.

Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu each scored twice in the second-leg encounter, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty to complete the emphatic victory. The result secured Nigeria’s progression to the next stage of the competition.

Morocco, meanwhile, advanced to the third round following the withdrawal of Congo from the qualifiers, setting up a highly anticipated meeting between the two sides.

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the third-round fixtures will be played over two legs between February 23 and March 6, 2027. The winner of the tie will progress to the fourth round as the race for Africa’s two Olympic qualification slots continues.

The Super Falcons returned to the Olympics at Paris 2024 after a 16-year absence and will be aiming to secure another appearance at the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

With only two African teams set to qualify for the women’s football tournament, the clash against Morocco represents another important test for Nigeria’s Olympic ambitions.
