The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has said the outcome of the 2027 presidential election will be determined by Nigerian voters rather than wealthy political backers or campaign spending.
Makinde, who is also the governor of Oyo State, made the statement on Monday at the APM North-Central Zonal Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
He said the election would not be determined by opinion polls, political calculations or the number of billionaires supporting a candidate, but by the electorate.
Makinde also criticised the Federal Government’s economic policies, describing them as “voodoo economics.” He argued that increased allocations to state governments had not translated into a reduction in hunger among Nigerians.
On security, the APM candidate questioned the budgetary planning behind the Federal Government’s reported expansion of Army divisions. He said he could not identify a corresponding provision in the 2026 budget and called for proper planning and funding to address insecurity.
Makinde also presented his “Reset Nigeria” agenda, saying it would focus on security, education, the economy and the country’s socio-political environment.
He said that, if elected, his administration would begin a transitional government of national unity from May 29, 2027, which he said would introduce a new direction for Nigeria’s development.
The Lafia meeting formed part of the APM’s zonal engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
