Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, has thrown her weight behind calls for the compulsory real-time electronic transmission of election results, following the Senate’s rejection of the proposal.

The Senate on Wednesday voted down a proposed amendment to Clause 60, Subsection 3, of the Electoral Amendment Bill, which sought to mandate the electronic transmission of election results from polling units. The decision has since sparked widespread criticism, with many Nigerians accusing lawmakers of laying the groundwork to undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to the development, Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a post shared on her Facebook page on Thursday, openly expressed support for the rejected provision, warning that its absence could harm Nigeria’s democratic process.

“I, Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, support the real-time Electronic Transmission of results,” she wrote.

“Failure of such stealth is a lethal assault on Nigeria’s democracy.”

Her stance places her among lawmakers and public figures who have continued to push for greater transparency and technological safeguards in Nigeria’s electoral system, amid growing public concern over the integrity of future elections.
