The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the outcome of the recent council elections in the nation’s capital has exposed what he described as the hypocrisy of politicians who stage public gestures to win support.

Wike made the remarks on Sunday after a meeting with Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, while reacting to the results of the polls.

According to him, the elections showed that residents can no longer be swayed by what he called superficial campaign tactics, such as politicians buying food items from roadside traders to create a populist image.

The minister noted that the results, in which the All Progressives Congress secured five area councils while the Peoples Democratic Party won one, reflected what he described as voters’ growing political awareness.

He said the outcome demonstrated that residents were able to distinguish between genuine governance efforts and political theatrics.

Wike added that the poll had clarified which party holds majority support in the territory, insisting that voters rejected what he termed “emergency democrats” who, in his view, refuse to acknowledge progress made by the current administration.
