Liverpool’s Champions League journey came to a painful end as they crashed out on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), leaving Mohamed Salah visibly emotional.
The Reds had secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash in Paris, making them slight favorites to advance. However, Ousmane Dembélé’s goal leveled the tie on aggregate, forcing a penalty shootout at Anfield.
PSG triumphed 4-1 in the shootout, with Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones both denied by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Meanwhile, Vitinha, Gonçalo Ramos, Dembélé, and Désiré Doué converted their penalties to send the French side through.
Salah, who struggled to contain his emotions after the match, could have played his last European game for Liverpool, as his contract expires this summer.
