The Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM), Jos Branch, has dissolved its executive committee and appointed a caretaker committee following an emergency congress meeting held on December 29, 2024, at Mwaghavul House, Fwati, Bukuru, Jos South LGA, Plateau State. The meeting, convened by the National Executive Committee led by Comr. SD Dankaka, addressed key issues concerning the Jos Branch elections, petitions, court injunctions, and the membership status of Mr. Hamza Iliyasu Garba.
During the congress, it was revealed that the electoral process for the Jos Branch executive was already in progress, with aspirants screened by the electoral committee. However, due to petitions and a court injunction filed by Mr. Hamza Iliyasu Garba to halt the election, the outgoing executive, led by Comr. Manji Dashon, was unable to conclude the process before their tenure expired on December 22, 2024.
As a result, the congress declared the tenure of the executive committee elapsed and dissolved the body. A caretaker committee was constituted to oversee the movement’s affairs until a new election is conducted. The newly appointed caretaker committee members are:
1. Nehemiah M. Fwangmut – Chairman
2. Walshak J. Mwoltit – Member
3. Posat Mandyen – Member
4. Fidelis Samben – Member
5. Maureen Mark – Member
6. Shehu Nanpan – Member
7. Pofi Kyermun – Secretary
In a significant development, the congress also resolved to deregister Mr. Hamza Iliyasu Garba, a chairmanship aspirant, from the Mwaghavul Youth Movement effective December 15, 2024. Investigations confirmed that Mr. Garba is of Pyam descent from Gindiri Chiefdom and not Mwaghavul as claimed.
Additionally, Mr. Garba has been directed to return all items belonging to the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, Rayfield Unit. He is prohibited from attending official meetings or accessing MYM social media platforms until he formally re-applies for membership through the proper channels. Despite his deregistration, the movement acknowledged his past contributions.
The congress also reviewed petitions and court injunctions. The petitioners were fined due to their failure to have copied relevant bodies. It was noted that petitioners had complied with directives for addressing relevant bodies. The National Secretariat assured members that it would respond to the court injunction filed by Mr. Garba, which was served at an incorrect address.
Outgoing Jos Branch Chairman, Comr. Dashon Manji Daniel, expressed gratitude to his team and MYM members for their support throughout his tenure. He urged the congress to extend the same support to the caretaker committee and the incoming executives once elected.
The Mwaghavul Youth Movement remains committed to upholding its principles and ensuring a smooth transition of leadership within its branches.
