A 17-year-old girl, identified as Chiamaka Chukwuokore, has died after allegedly being pushed from a two-storey building by her aunt’s boyfriend in Owerri, Imo State.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed her death in a statement on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, following the incident which occurred on November 1 along Mbonu Ejike Street, Ikeneagbu, Owerri.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, allegedly pushed the teenager from the building following an altercation. He was subsequently arrested by the police after an angry mob attempted to lynch him.
Chiamaka was rushed to a hospital for medical attention after sustaining serious injuries from the fall. However, she died on the evening of November 3 while receiving treatment.
Following her death, the suspect is now facing a murder allegation and remains in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ensure justice.
The police also urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and allow the authorities to carry out their investigation.
