At least 11 people have been killed and three others injured after gunmen opened fire at a house party in KwaMakhutha township, near Durban, South Africa.
The shooting occurred late Tuesday night, September 22, when three armed men reportedly entered a house where 14 people were gathered and opened fire.
According to the South African Police Service, 10 victims, including a woman believed to be pregnant, died at the scene, while four others were taken to hospital. One of the injured victims later died from their injuries.
Police said they have launched a manhunt for the attackers, with no arrests reported as of Wednesday.
The motive for the attack has not been established. However, police said some of the victims were known to its Crime Intelligence unit in connection with alleged illegal activities and noted that a feud between rival groups could not be ruled out.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli expressed shock over the incident, while acting police chief Puleng Dimpane activated a 72-hour tracking operation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The latest incident adds to concerns over violent crime and mass shootings in South Africa, where authorities continue to tackle widespread firearm-related violence.
