Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has raised concern over the declining use of the Igbo language among younger generations, urging parents and communities to take immediate steps to preserve it.
Writing on his Facebook page, Edochie lamented that many Igbo children today are unable to speak their mother tongue, describing the situation as a collective failure.
“Today, many of us who are Igbos, our children cannot speak Igbo. It’s a failure on our part that must be corrected moving forward,” he stated.
The actor’s call adds to growing concerns over the survival of indigenous Nigerian languages, as increasing numbers of children are adopting foreign languages over their native tongues.
