Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mocked members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who previously accused him of working against the party, noting that many of them have now defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Wednesday during the flag-off of the construction of the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II Junction along Wasa Road, by Shoprite Junction in the Apo area of Abuja, Wike said his critics should now commend him for “working for where they are heading.”
“It has never been like this before; whichever party you belong to, all of them have always worked together to support this administration,” the minister said.
He continued, “I’m very happy that very soon I will speak to Nigerians. I have been watching on television and social media people who said I want to destabilize the party, that I’m working for the APC — and now all of them are in APC.”
“So, they should commend me for working for where they are heading to. I should be commended for doing a good job for them,” he added.
Wike’s remarks come in the wake of recent defections of prominent PDP members, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and former PDP National Youth Leader, Sunday Udeh-Okoye, both of whom recently joined the APC.
Udeh-Okoye, who previously contested the position of PDP National Secretary against Samuel Anyanwu, a close ally of Wike, said during a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the Southeast “has found a home in the APC.”
Wike, who has been a key political figure in the PDP and an outspoken member of the G5 Governors’ group, has continued to maintain that his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration is driven by a desire for national development rather than partisan loyalty.
