The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday attended the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja.

The faction was represented by its National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, at the meeting held at INEC headquarters. Also in attendance were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and chairmen of other registered political parties.

A video sighted at the venue showed that INEC provided designated seats for the PDP representatives, with Mohammed seated in the chair labelled “PDP Chairman,” while Anyanwu occupied the seat marked “PDP National Secretary.”

The development follows a judgment delivered by a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday, January 30, which nullified the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.

In the ruling, Justice Uche Agomoh barred members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from parading themselves as national officers of the party. The court held that the convention was conducted in blatant disregard of existing court orders.

Justice Agomoh stressed that the PDP could not act in defiance of court directives and later seek judicial validation for actions taken in violation of such orders. He ruled that the party should be run by a caretaker committee until a valid and lawful national convention is held.

The Turaki-led faction had earlier approached the court seeking recognition of the November convention and validation of the NWC members elected during the exercise.

With the court ruling and INEC’s apparent recognition at the consultative meeting, the Wike-aligned faction appears to have gained the upper hand in the ongoing struggle for control of the PDP’s national leadership.
