Wedding Halted in India As Bride’s Family Discovers Groom’s Transgender Identity Sparks Dispute

A wedding ceremony in India reportedly ended abruptly after the groom was alleged to be associated with the transgender community, a development that disrupted the celebrations just hours after the couple completed traditional marital rites.

The marriage, arranged about six months earlier, was between a local bride and Rishu, said to be from Pure Ganai village. On February 13, the groom’s procession arrived in a festive mood, with music, dancing, and a warm reception from the bride’s family. Wedding rituals were concluded and guests retired for the night.

However, around 4 a.m., as preparations were underway for the bride’s ceremonial departure, a group of transgender performers from Kadopur arrived to collect the customary celebratory gift known as “neg.” According to eyewitnesses, the mood shifted when members of the group recognised the groom and claimed he had previously been associated with them.

Witnesses alleged that the groom’s family quickly offered the visitors money to remain silent. Suspicion grew among the bride’s relatives, who reportedly requested that the groom privately verify his gender. When he refused and a commotion followed, the visiting group repeated their claim about his past association.

Angered by the development, members of the bride’s family detained the groom and alerted the police. No formal complaint was eventually filed, reportedly due to social and cultural sensitivities surrounding the matter.

Following negotiations between both families, the groom’s side allegedly agreed to refund the wedding expenses, and the procession departed without the bride.
