Veteran Yoruba broadcaster and comic actor Timothy Agboola, popularly known as Ereke Ni Shop, has died after a prolonged illness.
The respected entertainer reportedly passed away on Wednesday at a private hospital in Lagos after battling health challenges for some time.
Agboola was widely known for his contributions to Yoruba broadcasting and comedy, earning admiration for programmes that blended humour, storytelling, and cultural education. Through his work, he became a beloved figure among listeners who appreciated his efforts to promote Yoruba heritage and traditions.
Over the years, he also gained recognition for proudly representing Ijesa culture in his broadcasts and performances, making him a familiar voice and personality among Yoruba audiences.
Following news of his passing, colleagues, friends, and fans took to social media to express grief and pay tribute to the veteran broadcaster.
One of his associates, Idris Shogbola, was among those who first shared the news online while mourning the loss.
“May the soul of our boss rest in peace. Pa Timothy Agboola ‘Ereke ni Shop’. Baba Oloye Repete… A broadcaster, actor, comedian. May God Almighty give you eternal rest in peace. Amen. Ereke ni Shop sun re o,” he wrote.
Agboola gained widespread attention for his unique storytelling style and lively comedic performances, often weaving humour with observations about everyday life.
During his decades-long career, he worked with several notable entertainers, including Baba Alajeju, and remained active in the entertainment space for many years.
Some of his comedy performances date back to the 1970s, when he was already gaining recognition for his vibrant stage presence and engaging style.
