The United States government has cautioned Nigerians seeking visas to provide accurate social media information or risk denial.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria issued the directive in a post on X, stressing that all visa applicants must disclose usernames or handles they have used across social media platforms in the past five years when completing the DS-160 visa application form.

According to the Mission, applicants are also required to certify the accuracy of their submissions before signing and submitting the form.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form. Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the U.S. Mission warned.

The embassy emphasized that non-disclosure of such details may not only result in immediate denial but could also affect eligibility for future visa applications.
