The United States Government has issued a security alert for its citizens in Nigeria following rising hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, urging Americans in the country to exercise heightened vigilance.
In a statement released on Monday, the U.S. Department of State advised citizens abroad to remain alert in light of ongoing military operations involving Iran. The advisory also warned of potential travel disruptions due to periodic airspace closures linked to the escalating conflict.
“Following the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide — especially in the Middle East — should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the statement said.
The advisory encouraged U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for timely security updates and to follow the Department of State’s Security Updates WhatsApp channel for further information.
The alert comes after Iranian media reported the death of Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials in airstrikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel. In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched missiles targeting U.S. bases in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, vowing to avenge the attacks.
US President Donald Trump, speaking in a live broadcast during the missile attacks on Saturday, stated that he was determined to eliminate members of the Iranian regime.
