Israeli and United States forces have carried out coordinated military strikes on Iran, with multiple explosions reported in the capital, Tehran, and other locations across the country.

According to Al Jazeera, a U.S. official confirmed the operation was conducted jointly by Israel and the United States.

Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency reported that several missiles struck University Street and the Jomhouri district in central Tehran, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air. The semi-official Tasnim News Agency also reported further explosions in the northern Seyyed Khandan area of the city.

Local media outlets indicated that strikes were not limited to the capital, noting additional impacts in western regions, including Ilam Province.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the operation, stating that it was intended to neutralize what he described as imminent threats posed by the Iranian government.

“A short time ago, the U.S. military began a major combat operation in Iran. Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime,” Trump said.

Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, said the strikes were launched to remove threats to Israel’s national security.

The development marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, with observers warning that the coordinated operation could trigger broader geopolitical repercussions.
