The controversy surrounding Nigerian TikToker Mirabel has taken a dramatic turn after she reportedly admitted that her earlier sexual assault allegation was untrue, triggering widespread backlash online and renewed police scrutiny.

Mirabel, whose TikTok videos had gone viral after she claimed she was assaulted by an unknown man at her residence in Ogun State, had initially drawn sympathy and calls for justice across social media.

In the videos, she alleged that the attacker inflicted injuries on her with a blade, prompting public outrage and attracting the attention of the Ogun State Police Command, which confirmed it had opened an investigation into the matter.

However, the narrative shifted after Mirabel reportedly spoke in an audio conversation shared by social media activist VeryDarkMan, where she suggested her earlier claims may not have been true.

According to the recording, Mirabel apologised and said she had been struggling with drug use and was not in a clear mental state when she made the allegations.

“Yes sir, please help me, I am very sorry. I have been taking drugs and I was not thinking clearly when I posted the videos,” she reportedly said.

Sources familiar with the investigation indicated that police officers had visited the hospital where Mirabel is receiving treatment and that she could face prosecution once discharged.

A police source quoted in media reports said the intention would be to ensure accountability and deter similar incidents in the future.

The development has sparked heated reactions online, with some expressing concern over the potential damage to genuine victims of sexual violence, while others demanded strict legal consequences. Meanwhile, a section of social media users have raised fresh concerns, speculating that Mirabel may have been pressured or threatened into retracting her claim. Some commenters have called for her to be examined by an independent medical professional to ensure due process, referencing her earlier allegation that the father of the accused was “powerful.” However, there is no official confirmation to support claims of intimidation, and authorities have not indicated that such concerns have been substantiated.

Among those reacting was reality TV personality Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, who urged authorities to prosecute Mirabel.

In a post on social media, she argued that false allegations could embolden perpetrators and undermine real survivors, insisting that the case should be treated seriously.

The police have yet to release a final statement confirming charges, but authorities maintain that the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident continues to stir national debate about social media influence, accountability, and the handling of sensitive criminal allegations in the digital age.
