In a shocking and tragic incident, Mr. Fwinbe Thomas was brutally killed in Jos, Plateau State, sparking outrage and condemnation from the Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Julius Alawari.
The horrifying incident unfolded on the evening of September 25, 2023, along Tudun Wada Ring Road, Hwolshe, Jos. According to a credible informant, Mr. Thomas was found lifeless in a pool of his own blood beside a damaged Suzuki Mini Bus with registration number KWK 536 XA. He had sustained multiple head injuries.
Local law enforcement was quick to respond, with the Police Patrol Team from Anglo-Jos Division rushing to the scene. Photographs of the victim were taken, and the damaged vehicle was towed to the station. Tragically, Mr. Thomas was pronounced dead upon arrival at Plateau Specialist Hospital, where his body was deposited for an autopsy.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim fell prey to hoodlums, suspected to be illegal commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as “Okada Riders.” It is important to note that the operation of Okada Riders in Jos Metropolis and Bukuru Metropolis is illegal.
CP Okoro Julius Alawari, psc, the Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, expressed his deep concern and condemnation for this heinous act. He assured Plateau residents that the perpetrators would face justice, stating, “There is no hiding place for evil doers in the State.”
Furthermore, the Commissioner issued a stern warning against “Jungle Justice” and urged citizens to let law enforcement agencies handle such cases, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law.
The investigation into this case remains ongoing, with updates to be provided to the public as they develop.
CP Okoro Alawari took this opportunity to remind the general public that the ban on the use of motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, within Jos Metropolis and Bukuru, is still in effect.
The police public relations officer also confirmed the arrest of one suspect in relation to the gruesome mob killing and went on to assure citizens that more arrest will be made.
