Riley Moore, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing Virginia’s Second District, is currently in Nigeria, according to a statement he shared on his official X handle on Sunday.
Moore announced that he arrived in the country “in the name of the Lord and on behalf of the American people,” adding that his visit included a series of engagements.
“Just ending a very productive visit to Nigeria and rounds of meetings. More details to come. Happy Sunday. God is Great!” he wrote.
While the lawmaker did not disclose the purpose of his trip, his visit comes amid ongoing investigations by some U.S. lawmakers into alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
The Nigerian government has repeatedly denied claims of genocide, insisting that acts of violence are driven by criminality, banditry, and farmer–herder tensions rather than religious persecution.
However, several American lawmakers continue to argue that Islamic extremists are deliberately targeting Christian communities, a position that has fueled calls for deeper scrutiny and possible congressional action.
More details on Moore’s meetings and mission in Nigeria are expected to emerge.
