Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has dismissed claims by Iran that the country is prepared to confront a possible ground invasion by American and Israeli forces.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, had warned on Thursday that the United States and Israel should not attempt a land invasion, describing such a move as a potential “big disaster” for them.
Araghchi expressed confidence in Iran’s ability to respond to any military action.
“We are confident that we can deal with them,” he said.
However, speaking in an interview with NBC, Trump dismissed the warning, saying Iran’s statement was meaningless.
“It’s a waste of time. They’ve lost everything. They’ve lost their Navy. They’ve lost everything they could possibly lose,”Trump said.
The U.S. president also reiterated his position that he intends to influence Iran’s future leadership, suggesting he already has a preferred candidate in mind.
“We want to go in and clear out everything,” he said.
“We don’t want someone who would take more than 10 years to rebuild. They need a good leader. There are some individuals I believe would perform well in the role.”
