A lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the Federal University Lokoja, Kemi Emmanuel, has died in a tragic road accident along the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 22, near the Crusher-Felele axis, when an articulated vehicle reportedly ran over the lecturer after she fell off a commercial motorcycle.

According to eyewitnesses, the motorcycle conveying Emmanuel was hit by a moving truck, causing her to fall onto the road, where she was subsequently crushed to death.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State, Tenimu Etuku, said the accident happened around 3:30 p.m.

“When the accident happened, our rescue team responded promptly and quickly rushed the victim to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary,” Etuku said.

He expressed concern over the behaviour of the commercial motorcyclist, who reportedly fled the scene under the pretext of chasing the truck driver responsible for the crash.

The FRSC commander cautioned motorcycle operators against competing with heavy or enclosed vehicles on highways, warning that such reckless acts often lead to preventable tragedies.
