President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s push for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, describing it as essential for fairness, inclusivity, and meaningful reform of the global body.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighted Nigeria’s role as a stabilising force in Africa and a reliable partner in international peacekeeping.

“A stabilising force in regional security and a consistent partner in global peacekeeping, our case for a permanent seat at the Security Council is a demand for fairness, for representation, and for reform that restores credibility to the very institution upon which the hope of multilateralism rests,” Tinubu said.

Shettima led the Nigerian delegation to the 80th UNGA, where the call for greater African representation on the Council featured prominently.
