Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri following a recent surge in terrorist attacks in the state.
The directive was contained in a statement personally signed by the president and released to journalists on Tuesday after Monday’s bomb attacks that reportedly claimed at least 23 lives.
The attacks, believed to have been carried out by suspected members of Boko Haram, involved multiple suicide bombings in Borno State.
Tinubu, while commiserating with residents of Borno over the latest violence, reassured Nigerians that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain committed to defeating the insurgents.
The president also disclosed that during a recent meeting with heads of security and intelligence agencies, he approved additional equipment and operational support to strengthen the military’s capacity in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
According to him, the process of deploying the support is already underway.
“I have directed the security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation,” the president said.
Tinubu further instructed emergency response agencies to ensure that victims injured in the attacks receive proper medical care.
