President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Nigerian military to eliminate terrorists responsible for recent attacks on residents of Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and to restore lasting peace in the area.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, disclosed this on Thursday while speaking to journalists in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa.
According to the governor, the President’s directive has already taken effect, with the first commander of the newly established Operation Savannah Shield reporting for duty in Kwara State.
Governor AbdulRazaq explained that his visit to the Villa was to brief President Tinubu on the security situation in Kaiama and to express appreciation for the swift response and support from the Federal Government.
“Yes, I came to brief Mr President about what happened in Kaiama Local Government of Kwara State and also to thank him for the prompt action taken by establishing Operation Savannah Shield,” the governor said.
He noted that the operation would go a long way in restoring calm and deterring further attacks in the region.
“Well, after meeting the President, I’m confident because as I speak to you, the first commander for Operation Savannah Shield has reported in Kwara State, Ilorin, today, and he’s hitting the ground running. We rely on the military to do what they do best,” AbdulRazaq added.
The governor further revealed that President Tinubu has instructed the armed forces to move decisively to secure the area and ensure that peace and normalcy return to affected communities.
