Tinubu Directs Service Chiefs to Step Up Security Strategies, Donates ₦200m to Nigerian Legion

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday urged the nation’s service chiefs to develop and implement new strategies to enhance results in the ongoing fight against insecurity, calling for greater efficiency in the discharge of their duties.

The focus of the meeting was highlighted by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, who spoke to journalists after the closed-door session at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. Oluyede described the meeting as “engaging,” noting that the President provided fresh directives to improve the effectiveness of security operations nationwide.

He assured Nigerians that the security agencies are working together to ensure a peaceful yuletide season.

Key attendees included Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General W. Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. General Emmanuel Undiandeye; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi; and Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In a related development, President Tinubu donated ₦200 million to the Nigerian Legion, pledging continued government support for the welfare of military personnel, injured officers, and families of fallen heroes.

The donation was made at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal launch at the Presidential Villa. The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, contributed ₦100 million on behalf of the National Assembly, while the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, donated ₦20 million.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the donations and the President’s commitment to supporting the nation’s armed forces.
