Popular Nigerian TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has dismissed claims that the temporary nighttime ban on TikTok LIVE in Nigeria will affect his earnings.
TikTok began restricting access to its LIVE feature for Nigerian users during late-night hours on Sunday, issuing a system notification titled “LIVE⚫ Notices – TikTok LIVE Update in Nigeria.” The message stated that the measure was part of an ongoing safety investigation to keep the platform secure. Users were also unable to view nighttime LIVE streams from outside the country.
Reacting in a video posted on Instagram on Monday, Peller said critics expected him to “go hungry,” but such assumptions ignore the diversity of his revenue streams.
“People are expecting me to be crying after TikTok banned live in Nigeria, thinking I’ll go hungry. I’m an ambassador to numerous brands, and none of my endorsements is less than ₦40 million,” he said.
The content creator noted that while TikTok contributed to his rise, his financial stability is anchored on long-term partnerships, brand endorsements, and an established digital presence beyond the platform.
Peller also stressed that he regularly gives back to his fans, often redistributing gifts he receives during livestreams through giveaways.
He praised TikTok’s role in youth empowerment, arguing that the platform helps emerging creators grow their audience and income much faster than on Instagram or other platforms.
“Many people will grow on TikTok. You can’t grow on Instagram the same way. Before you make it there, you will post plenty… TikTok is easier to grow on,” he said.
Responding to earlier calls by critics to shut down nighttime streams, Peller argued that many people underestimate how significantly TikTok LIVE contributes to the livelihoods of young Nigerians.
“Those girls who wanted TikTok night livestream banned, you will still be on TikTok every day,” he said, warning that restrictions could hurt engagement and creator earnings.
He urged authorities and platform managers to consider the economic implications of livestreaming, describing TikTok as one of the most accessible platforms for young Nigerians seeking visibility, income, and digital opportunities.
