Apprehension has gripped Makurdi as the main entrance of the Benue High Court complex was blocked with piles of sharp sand, raising concerns over ongoing judicial tensions.

Government sources, speaking anonymously, told The Nation that the Ministry of Works and Housing had begun renovations at the facility.

When The Nation visited the High Court Office, in Old GRA closes to Makurdi Club, stern-looking security personnel were seen at the gate, which was under lock and key.

A security personnel, who displayed his weapon menacingly, also told The Nation that they were at the High Court premises to maintain law and order.

The development, according to observers, may not be unconnected with the ongoing saga of the purported removal of the Chief Judge.

Benue House of Assembly has recommended removal of the Chief Judge for alleged gross misconducts.

But the National Judicial Council (NJC) voided the suspension.
