A tragic tanker accident at the Polo Roundabout area of Jos on Sunday night, December 28, 2025, has left several persons dead and many others injured.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred when a fuel tanker descending from the St. Louis College axis reportedly lost control, rammed into a pedestrian, and subsequently crashed into several vehicles before coming to a halt near the Polo Roundabout.

Emergency responders who arrived at the scene described a grim situation, with crushed vehicles, scattered debris, and victims trapped in wreckage. Initial reports from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that two persons died on the spot, while no fewer than 16 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to hospitals within the Jos metropolis for treatment.

However, sources at medical facilities disclosed that five of the injured victims reportedly died overnight, raising concerns that the death toll may have increased as some unverified report suggest 15 death, although official confirmation from emergency authorities is still awaited.
Security agencies, including the FRSC, Nigeria Police, Federal Fire Service, and volunteers, worked through the night to evacuate victims, clear the road, and prevent further danger, as the tanker was said to be conveying petroleum products.
Authorities have attributed the crash to suspected brake failure, a recurring cause of tanker accidents in the area, and have urged drivers of heavy-duty vehicles to ensure proper vehicle maintenance, especially while navigating steep routes.
As of the time of filing this report, investigations into the incident are ongoing, while officials have appealed to residents to remain calm and allow emergency operations to continue.
