Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the appointment of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police, following the latter’s resignation.

Reacting to the President’s announcement accepting Egbetokun’s exit, Sowore said the appointment should never have been made, arguing that the administration continues to be marked by what he described as poor judgment and avoidable mistakes.

Posting in response to Tinubu’s message on 𝕏, Sowore stated that the President had no option but to remove the former police chief, adding that Nigerians would eventually demand Tinubu’s own resignation and judge his tenure harshly.

Earlier, President Tinubu had thanked Egbetokun for his service, commending his professionalism and contributions toward strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework.

In the same statement, the President announced the appointment of Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, citing prevailing security challenges in the country.

Tinubu also disclosed that he would soon convene the Nigeria Police Council to consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General before forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation.
