Etiti village in Igbo-Ukwu, Anambra State, has been thrown into shock after a young man, identified as Chigbo, was reportedly discovered chained and locked inside a hut by his family for the past five years.
According to reports, Chigbo’s family members had told friends and neighbors in 2021 that he had traveled to Europe. However, a viral video circulating on social media shows the moment he was found and released from the hut where he had allegedly been confined since July 3, 2021.
“I’ve been locked here since July 3rd, 2021,” Chigbo said in the video, expressing relief at regaining his freedom.
While the motive behind his confinement remains unclear, the incident has sparked outrage within the community, with residents demanding answers and justice. The owner of the house where he was found reportedly claimed the young man had a mental illness, insisting that was why he had been chained in isolation.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but investigations into the shocking case are said to be ongoing.
