Seven Feared Dead, Several Injured in Plateau Night Bus Attack

Tragedy struck on Friday night as armed hoodlums attacked a commercial bus along Mangun Road in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least seven passengers and injuring several others.

The 18-seater bus, reportedly conveying 28 passengers from Zaria in Kaduna State to Qua’an-Pan in southern Plateau for a wedding ceremony, was ambushed around 9:47 p.m. on June 20. According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants intercepted the bus on the outskirts of Mangun and launched a brutal attack before setting the vehicle ablaze.

The attack left seven people dead at the scene, while other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries in the chaos that ensued.

Local residents and community leaders, responding swiftly to the unfolding tragedy, intervened alongside security personnel to rescue surviving passengers. Their prompt action is believed to have prevented even greater loss of life.

Injured victims were immediately transported to the General Hospital in Mangu for emergency treatment.

Security sources from the Plateau State Police Command confirmed that tactical teams have been deployed to the affected area, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the deadly assault.

The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity and attacks on commuters along major routes in Plateau State. Authorities have called for calm and assured the public that measures are being taken to restore safety in the area.
