Security operatives have apprehended two individuals suspected to be officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside a politician over alleged plans to buy votes during a by-election in the state.
The suspects, including a male and female INEC official, were arrested at a hotel in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, reportedly in possession of a large sum of money believed to be earmarked for vote buying.
A video clip circulating on social media on Saturday shows the suspects — believed to be INEC staff and alleged PDP officials — squatting as they were questioned by an unidentified security operative.
In the footage, the interrogator claimed intelligence reports revealed that the INEC officials had earlier received money from party officials as part of a vote-buying arrangement during the election.
The incident has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for a full investigation and prosecution of those involved.
