No fewer than five persons, including children, have been killed and three others severely injured following an attack on Nche Shwye Rishi community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Thursday night, further heightening security concerns in parts of the state.
A youth leader and former Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Auta, confirmed the attack to journalists, describing the development as tragic and unfortunate. He disclosed that the injured victims have been rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
Auta called on security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property in vulnerable communities. He also urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, advising them to report suspicious movements to relevant authorities.
The latest attack adds to the growing list of violent incidents in Plateau State, sparking renewed concerns among residents and stakeholders over recurring insecurity in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful.
