The final group of worshippers abducted from First ECWA Aiyetoro Kiri in Kogi State has been released, bringing to an end weeks of anxiety and distress for the community.
Bandits had attacked the church on December 14, 2025, abducting several worshippers during the incident.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the Aiyetoro Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA) said the release followed sustained negotiations, appeals, and significant financial commitments by the community, families of the victims, and sympathizers.
According to the association, the first batch of seven abducted worshippers was released on January 1, 2026. Further negotiations, despite severe emotional and financial strain, led to the release of three more victims on January 12, 2026, followed by an additional fourteen the next day.
The final group of six abducted persons was released recently, completing the process and securing the freedom of all those taken during the attack.
AKBDA described the journey to secure the victims’ release as one that demanded “enormous resources” and unwavering determination, noting that the outcome reflects perseverance, collective sacrifice, and faith.
The association expressed profound gratitude to God, the affected families, community members, friends, and well-wishers who supported Aiyetoro Kiri through what it described as one of its darkest moments. It also commended media organizations for their consistent coverage and advocacy throughout the ordeal.
AKBDA concluded by praying for lasting peace and improved security in Aiyetoro Kiri and Bunu land, expressing hope that such an incident would never occur again.
