The Plateau State Youth Council (PYC) has expressed deep concern over the rising cases of insecurity across the country. The Council described the alarming incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and senseless killings as a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians—particularly children and young people, who remain the most vulnerable targets of such criminal activities.
In response to this troubling trend, the leadership of the PYC is urging parents, guardians, and residents in all communities to heighten their vigilance. The Council stressed the importance of promptly reporting every suspicious movement, unfamiliar face, or unusual activity to the nearest security agency, community vigilante structure, or relevant local authority. Timely reporting, it noted, can help prevent harm and enable swift intervention by security operatives.
The Council further noted that the resurgence of these attacks reflects the tactics of marauders who intentionally intensify assaults to deter innocent Nigerians from harvesting their farm produce and to destabilise social activities ahead of the festive season.
As part of broader safety efforts, the PYC is advising residents to adopt essential precautionary measures in their daily routines, including:
- Avoiding isolated routes, especially during nighttime, and informing a trusted person of their movements.
- Refraining from sharing personal schedules or sensitive information online, and immediately alerting neighbours or security personnel when strange vehicles or individuals are seen loitering in the area.
The Plateau State Youth Council reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the safety of the Plateau people and all residents in the state. It said it will continue to engage security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen community-driven responses to insecurity, especially during the festive period.
“Our resolve as a nation must remain unshaken. We are encouraged to demonstrate unwavering patriotic commitment to safeguarding our God-given heritage,” the statement added.
“We must stand united in these trying times, confident that we will emerge stronger and more united.”
