PSA-USA Commends Mutfwang’s Inclusive Leadership, Pledges Stronger Diaspora Partnership for Plateau Development

The Plateau State Association USA (PSA-USA) has commended Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for what it described as his steady, open and inclusive leadership style, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Plateau State Government and the diaspora community for sustainable development.

The commendation was given during a strategic engagement between the PSA-USA delegation, led by its National President, Dr. Barth Shepkong, and Governor Mutfwang in Washington, D.C., on February 1, 2026.

The meeting provided a platform for discussions on diaspora engagement, peacebuilding, investor confidence and the deepening of development partnerships between the Plateau State Government and indigenes of the state resident abroad.

Members of the Association praised the Governor’s consistent willingness to engage the Plateau diaspora in dialogue, describing the approach as encouraging and instrumental in reinforcing trust and inclusion. They noted that such openness has reaffirmed the place of the diaspora as key stakeholders in Plateau State’s development journey.

The delegation stressed that Plateau State has reached a point where diaspora engagement must move beyond goodwill to more structured, transparent and institutional collaboration, emphasizing that clarity of process, continuity and mutual accountability are essential for translating goodwill into tangible development outcomes.

PSA-USA also briefed the Governor on its recent engagements with the United States Congress and other international stakeholders regarding developments in Plateau State, explaining that the engagements were carried out responsibly in support of peacebuilding and accurate representation of the state’s realities in international policy circles.

The Association highlighted the vast potential contributions of the Plateau diaspora beyond financial remittances, including human capital, professional expertise, global networks and investment capacity across sectors such as healthcare, education, finance, technology, entrepreneurship and peacebuilding.

Investor confidence featured prominently during the discussions, with PSA-USA emphasizing the importance of contract integrity, policy consistency and effective dispute-resolution mechanisms as critical drivers of sustained investment interest from diaspora investors.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to PSA-USA for its advocacy, development initiatives and commitment to peace, describing Plateau indigenes in the diaspora as vital partners in the state’s progress.

He outlined his administration’s efforts to stabilize Plateau State, strengthen institutions and create an enabling environment for development and investment, while reaffirming his readiness to work closely with the diaspora community.

The Governor urged Plateau indigenes at home and abroad to shun tribal, ethnic and regional sentiments, stressing that unity and mutual understanding are indispensable to lasting peace and sustainable development.

On recent political developments, Governor Mutfwang explained that his decision to move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a strategic choice made in the overall interest of Plateau State and its long-term stability, rather than partisan considerations.

The PSA-USA delegation reiterated its support for the establishment of a Plateau State Diaspora Commission, recalling that the proposal received broad endorsement during the Association’s 20th Anniversary celebration attended by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.

The Association also briefed the Governor on the R64 Diaspora Campaign Fund, a non-partisan initiative aligned with Plateau State’s 64 wards and aimed at supporting grassroots development efforts to complement government programmes.

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained partnership toward building a peaceful, inclusive and prosperous Plateau State.
