President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Remi Tinubu have returned to Nigeria following a historic two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where they were hosted by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The President departed London on Thursday night and is expected to spend the upcoming Sallah holiday in Lagos before resuming official duties. Tinubu had left Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for the visit, which marked the first full state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years. He is also the first Nigerian leader to be hosted by the British monarch at Windsor Castle.

During the visit from March 18 to 19, the Royal Family hosted the President and First Lady at Windsor Castle, including a viewing of a special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection related to Nigeria. Tinubu held private discussions with the King and met with organisations engaged in national and international interfaith dialogue. The Royal Family also hosted a state banquet in their honour.

President Tinubu further held a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, resulting in expanded engagement between senior officials of both countries. The meetings culminated in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding covering trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.

The visit strengthened the longstanding ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, focusing on collaboration in areas such as immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
