The socio-cultural group, Plateau Our Heritage Revival Initiative (POHri), has congratulated Hon. Dayyabu Garga (Executive Chairman Kanam LGC), Amb. Gideon Dandareng (Executive Chairman Jos South LGC) Hon. Ayuba Jagaba (Executive Deputy Chairman Jos South LGA) and other officials over their emergence as elected Officials of the 17 Local Government Councils and 325 Wards in the Elections which held on Saturday 10th October, 2021.
While we appreciate God and the Electoral Umpire for the peaceful, free and fair conduct of the elections, we wish to charged the elected officials to work hard to justify the trust and confidence reposed in them with exceptional and people-oriented leadership.
POHri wish to commend the citizens of the State for their peaceful dispositions and for being law abiding throughout the elections which made the exercise smooth and without any violence.
The judiciary must also be commended for attending to the matter brought to it, for giving accelerated hearing and ruling that elections should hold to avoid vacuum at the grassroot levels while the case continues.
Security agencies and the media need to be commended for their efforts and contributions to the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections as well as reportage of the exercise accordingly.
We wish to call on all political parties in Nigeria and particularly in the State to practice inclusive democracy and work towards strengthening our nascent democracy.
We charge the opposition parties to provide healthy, constructive and vibrant opposition that will engender democratic development.
POHri enjoins all political Parties to adopt “direct primaries” to prevent moneybags or heavy weights from pocketing the parties. In so doing, personality clashes would be hugely reduced or even outrightly eliminated as well as the inclusion of youths, women and the handicapped in the running of the parties to help strengthen them which in turn will beautify the polity.
As a group, we will continue to support purpose driven leadership and draw attention of leaders when they are derailing irrespective of their party, ethnic and religious inclinations.
We wish our new leaders at the third tier of government a successful tenure even as they settle down to provide credible leadership, stimulate economic growth and attract infrastructural developments to their respective local govt areas.
Hon. Alexander Kwapnoe – FIMC
Chairman, POHri
Cmr. Friday Bako
Secretary, POHri
