Residents of Langtang North, Langtang South, Wase, Kanam and Kanke Local Government Areas of Plateau State have begun to witness renewed infrastructural development as Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang flagged off the construction of critical rural road projects across the zones.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Joshua Laven Ubandoma, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, led top government officials, traditional rulers and community leaders to officially commence the projects in the benefiting LGAs.
The projects flagged off include the Mabudi–Zamko Road in Langtang South LGA; the Mban-Gwiwa Kogi Bridge in Langtang North LGA linking Langtang North and Wase LGAs; the Wase–Dengi Road in Wase LGA; and the Amper–Dengi–Wase Road spanning Kanam and Kanke LGAs.

Speaking during the ceremonies across the various locations, Hon. Ubandoma said the projects reflect the Mutfwang administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
“When this government says something, it stands by it. His Excellency promised that the Dengi–Wase Road would be constructed, and today we are flagging it off. This is a government that talks and does,” he said.
He disclosed that the various road projects, awarded to various Consortium companies, to covers lengthy kilometres and will be executed in phases. According to him, the scope of work includes earthworks, construction of box and ring culverts, concrete-lined drains, stone pitching, asphalt overlay and other ancillary works. The project is expected to be completed within 8 to 18 months, though he expressed confidence that the contractor could deliver ahead of schedule.
The commissioner emphasized the economic importance of the roads, particularly to agricultural and mining communities in Kanam, Kanke and Wase, noting that improved road networks would enhance revenue generation and stimulate rural economies.
He called on local government chairmen, supervising councillors for works, youths and traditional rulers to collaborate with contractors to ensure smooth execution and security of the projects.

Also speaking at the Amper–Dengi flag-off, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said the road fulfilled a campaign promise made by Governor Mutfwang to the people of Kanam.
“This is a government that is mindful of the votes of the people. When His Excellency makes a promise, you don’t need to remind him. He will stand by his word,” he said, assuring residents that the administration would not engage in symbolic flag-offs without actual project delivery.

At the Mabudi–Zamko Road flag-off in Langtang South, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, described the project as historic for the area, noting that Langtang South had long suffered infrastructural deficits in roads, water and healthcare.
She commended the governor for prioritizing the area and also highlighted the administration’s intervention in providing free anti-snake venom treatment at designated health facilities, particularly benefiting communities in Tarok land that are prone to snake bites.

In Langtang North, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, described the Mban-Gwiwa Kogi Bridge as a landmark project that would serve as a critical link between several Tarok communities and neighboring Wase LGA.
“This bridge is a major connector. It links communities and will open up economic and social activities across Langtang North, Langtang South and Wase. Our people deeply appreciate this gesture,” he said.

Similarly, in Wase LGA, the Chairman, Hon. Hamisu Mohammed Anani, represented by the Council Secretary, expressed gratitude to the state government, describing the Wase–Dengi Road as a strategic intervention that would boost development and commercial activities in the area.
Across the LGAs, community leaders and residents welcomed the projects with enthusiasm, describing them as life-changing interventions expected to improve access, security, agriculture and economic growth.
Hon. Ubandoma noted that the newly flagged-off projects form part of 10 new road projects initiated by the Mutfwang administration, in addition to the rehabilitation of 45 previously abandoned road projects inherited by the government.
The latest flag-offs follow similar exercises conducted days earlier in Mikang and Pankshin LGAs, where the government commenced work on the Lifidi–Piapung–Tunkus Road, Piapun–Baltep Road and the Wokkos District Road.
With contractors already mobilizing to site, the Plateau State Government says the rural road expansion drive is aimed at fostering inclusive development and connecting communities across the state.
